What happens after breast surgery?
There are post-surgical garments that are soft and supportive and easier to manage while recuperating. There are leisure forms that are comfortable and functional.
When should I schedule a fitting?
In most cases, doctors will permit patients to schedule a fitting for a mastectomy bra from six to eight weeks after the initial surgery. It is most important that the incision site has completely healed prior to being fitted for a breast prosthesis and mastectomy bras.
How do I choose the right breast form and bra?
There are countless options and varied styles available for a mastectomy bra. Whether you’re looking for something feminine or more focused on comfort and function, our mastectomy fitter can assist. It is a good idea to try on several different styles of mastectomy bras to be certain the post-mastectomy prosthesis will fit the bra properly, the band size is correct and the symmetry is as it should be. Our mastectomy fitter will help you through every step of the fitting, conducting the necessary measurements and helping to try on each bra. Be honest and upfront about what you like and do not like to ensure correct sizing and ideal comfort. As a general rule, it is a good idea to purchase three mastectomy bras at a time: one to wear, one to wash and one to rest.
Do I schedule return fittings?
Most insurance providers cover the purchase of at least three bras every six months with a prescription; therefore, you should feel comfortable establishing a relationship with your mastectomy fitter and scheduling semiannual fittings. Weight fluctuations are also a common reason to schedule regular fittings. Fitting is recommended at least once a year even if you do not think you have gained or lost a significant amount of weight.
