Pediatric Prosthetics
Pediatric prosthetics are needed when your child has undergone a necessary amputation or is born with any type of congenital limb deficiency. Pediatric Prosthetics are fit as soon as possible to help the child learn to utilize the prosthesis, so their use becomes second nature through all developmental stages. Skyland Prosthetics and Orthotics provide exceptional care for your child through all the years of growth and change. SPO skilled practitioners have decades of experience, helping the pediatric patient overcome limb loss.
Pediatric Orthotics
Starting at infancy and carrying through all stages of development, many children will require orthotic treatment. Our multidisciplinary approach for pediatric support services will address the unique and individual needs of each child that comes through our doors. Your children will receive personal, high-quality attention to provide the greatest rehabilitation outcome possible.
Cranial Helmets
Helmet therapy is not painful or uncomfortable for your baby and is used to gently correct the shape of the cranium over time. Many times your baby’s head shape can correct itself through conservative treatments such as repositioning and physical therapy; however in some cases, it might not be enough. The good news is, when caught early in infant stages, even severe cases are highly correctable through a combination of PT and helmet therapy.
Shoes for Children
Your child may need orthotic intervention to provide support or correct positioning of the foot or ankle. A wider toe box and deeper depth shoes are usually needed to accommodate these orthotic devices. Proper fitting shoes that provide room for the orthosis are crucial to the fit and comfort for your child, resulting in the best possible outcome.
FAQ
How do we approach prosthetic treatment?
Children require ample attention when it comes to their prosthesis. Children are both active and growing which means they need to be monitored to ensure their prosthetic device fits and allows them to live a life similar to other active children. Both parents and prosthetists play an important role in making sure a child is able to ambulate with comfort and ease. By providing personalized care and education, we can best assist you and your child.
